Do you have aesthetic dental issues that take away from the appearance of your teeth? Fortunately, with modern dental technology, you don’t need to settle for a smile that you aren’t confident showing off. You have numerous cosmetic dental treatments to choose from, like veneers and Lumineers. They are both great at masking aesthetic flaws, but which one is best for you? Read on to learn more about each of them so you can decide for yourself.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are placed over the front surface of the teeth in order to cover up a wide range of imperfections. A thin layer of protected enamel (about half a millimeter) is removed to make room for the veneers. An impression is then taken and sent off to the dental laboratory. After just a few weeks, the permanent veneers are cemented to the front surface of the teeth. Here are just a few of the advantages of veneers:

  • Appearance: Whether you just want to have one tooth altered or if you want a whole set, veneers are made to be the exact size, shape, and color to blend in with the rest of your smile. They are crafted to look natural and are not bulky because some of the protective enamel is removed.
  • Stain Resistant: Veneers are also a permanent whitening solution. They are much more difficult to stain than your natural tooth enamel. You won’t need to worry about seeing your dentist for regular teeth whitening.
  • Long-Lasting: Dental veneers can last upwards of 15 years if they are cared for properly. They are also very durable, protecting the supporting teeth.

What Are Lumineers?

Lumineers are a very similar treatment option to porcelain veneers, but they take less preparation. This is because they are extremely thin and immediately bonded to the front surface of the teeth using a special adhesive. Here are a few of the many advantages of this treatment:

  • Less Invasive: The procedure for placing Lumineers is much less invasive than the one for porcelain veneers. It does not involve the removal of any tooth enamel.
  • Reversible: Because your teeth are not altered before this procedure, your dentist can remove them later on if you make that decision in the future.
  • More Affordable: The cost of Lumineers is in a similar ballpark as the cost for dental veneers, but they tend to be a little more affordable.

What Cosmetic Dental Option Is Better?

Both dental veneers and Lumineers are great options when it comes to improving the appearance of your smile. The best way to decide which choice is best for you is by speaking to your dentist. This way, you can come up with a plan that caters to your needs.

If you’re interested in one of these cosmetic treatments, schedule a consultation with your dentist. You’ll be on track towards your smile goals in no time!
